Valley Circumnavigators Club announces April speaker event

A “picture perfect” talk is being planned by the Desert Chapter of the Circumnavigators Club, an educational and social organization that brings together those who have circumnavigated the globe.

On Sunday, April 5, the chapter welcomes Dafna Brzoza, D.D.S., M.S. as she shows and narrates her passion for photography and how it reflects her life and world travels.

Born in Israel and raised in Venezuela, Dr. Brzoza recently moved to the U.S. to escape the socio-political unrest in Venezuela, according to a press release.

Her photographic works span diverse settings, ranging from a look at Venezuelan culture exhibited in the Arturo Michelena Museum in Caracas to a look at metro life which garnered her a second prize at a national photography convention in Venezuela.

She also garnered a first place prize in honor of the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel with her work that depicted the Dead Sea to a “Life is Beautiful” five-year long display at a hospital in Caracas, intended to “simply make people happier in a hospital environment.”

At UNESCO’s Caracas headquarters, her images were submitted on the occasion of Earth Day and showed images from all over the world.

The child of Polish Holocaust survivors, Dr. Brzoza’s father was deported to Siberia and after World War II ended, he went to study mechanical and metallurgical engineering in Munich --- a contribution by a Jewish organization to help him survive. From there, he went to Israel where he met his wife and then was hired to run the only private steel plant in Venezuela for the remainder of his life, the press release stated.

These experiences cause Dr. Brzoza to “think about the importance of Jewish organizations and how history repeats itself.”

Dr. Brzoza’s artistry underscores her natural curiosity about the world, and she will address the Desert Chapter in her photo-talk on “Paralles” --- her theory on the similarities she views as she travels the globe, meets people, and observes daily life, whether that is found in “the exuberance of the landscapes, the magic of its light, the charm of its people or the delight of their food.”

The Desert Chapter luncheon event begins at 1 p.m. Current members and those who have completed some of their circumnavigation are invited as well as guests.

To reserve a spot, to obtain payment information, location details, and to make food choices, contact: azcircumnavigators@gmail.com. All reservations and payments must be received by Friday, March 27.

The national Circumnavigators Club began in New York City in 1910 and has grown to include chapters in 10 cities across the U.S. and also in the United Kingdom and Singapore.

For information on the club’s history, membership requirements, and foundation donations, which partially fund payment for an undergraduate to do a circumnavigation while conducting a competitive and vetted research project, go to the club’s national website: circumnavigators.org.
