Scottsdale welcomes its 1st Teriyaki Madness restaurant along Pima Road

Posted

A Teriyaki Madness restaurant has “glazed” into the Scottsdale community with its Japanese cuisines.

Located 14884 N. Pima Road, in Scottsdale Shops near the Fedex Office, the Teriyaki Madness opened on Wednesday, May, 28, according to a press release.

Grand opening celebration events kicked off on May 27, with  customers getting a chance to participate in a promotion to win free Teriyaki Madness, including raffles and discounted bowls, through May 29.

Owned by a Vietnam native and University of Southern California grad, Dominic Do, the entrepreneur has also owned dental practices in California and an ice cream shop in Las Vegas for years.

His daughter introduced him to the teriyaki bowls, as a business pursuit, in Las Vegas where she attends college.

Mr. Do, 49, answered the following questions for the Independent to introduce himself and his business.

What has it been like opening a restaurant during the COVID-19 pandemic?

It has been difficult but manageable. We are excited to open and start serving the Scottsdale community. My landlord allowed for a couple extra parking spots for curbside pickup. Hiring has been difficult and we are still looking for more employees at this time.

What was life like growing up in Vietnam and what brought you to Scottsdale?

My father is a veteran from the Vietnam war. He was given priority to immigrate to the U.S. We moved when I was 18 and I immediately started school at USC for dentistry. I currently live in Huntington Beach, California. I have always had an entrepreneurial drive, owning my own dentist offices in California and an ice cream shop in Las Vegas for several years.

Business ownership in Scottsdale seemed like the next obvious move. The city is growing tremendously, and I am excited to introduce Teriyaki Madness to Scottsdale when it’s so important for families to have access to great food with quality ingredients at affordable prices. I’m ready for the community to fall in love with the brand like I have.

What made you want to be an entrepreneur and how long have you had businesses?

I’m a dentist. I own three dentist offices in California and I’ve had an ice cream shop in Las Vegas for three years. I have always been an entrepreneur, and I like opening businesses in new industries and helping them grow.

This is my first venture into restaurant ownership, and it’s a pleasure to bring Teriyaki Madness to the great city of Scottsdale, which is just one of three shops I’ve signed on to open. I’m currently scouting real estate in Peoria for number two.

I was confident in my decision to invest with TMAD as soon as I met the corporate team. They are great people and have provided me with a ton of support through the onboarding and opening process.

What does your family consist of, ie: spouse, kids, pets, etc.?

I am married with four kids ages 18, 16, 11 and eight. My eighteen-year-old son is going to help me out a lot in running the business. He will be by my side for training and help me with the opening as well. My daughter is the one who first introduced me to fresh teriyaki bowls at TMAD in Las Vegas where she attends school.

Describe what patrons can expect with your new teriyaki company?

Teriyaki Madness is a fast-casual teriyaki shop concept. We’re committed to unconditionally satisfying our guests by offering delicious, made-to-order Teriyaki dishes prepared with fresh, all-natural ingredients served quickly and at a reasonable price. The simple menu lets guests choose their protein, type of rice or noodles and desired vegetables for a fully customizable bowl made as healthy as the customer wants it to be.

What grand opening celebrations and events are planned?

Any customer who places an order through the TMAD app between May 27 and June 2 will be entered to be one of five winners to receive free TMAD for one year, or one of 20 winners to receive free TMAD for one month.

May 27-May 29: Customers can enjoy Junior and Regular Chicken Teriyaki Bowls for just $5 in-shop or by placing an order through the Teriyaki Madness app.

What is a Seattle-style teriyaki restaurant going to be like in Scottsdale?

Our shop will offer huge, satisfying bowls of addicting flavors made with high-quality ingredients like all-natural marinated chicken, steak, salmon or tofu with fresh, stir-fried veggies and a base of steamed white, brown or fried rice or Yakisoba noodles.

I’m confident we’ll make a great first impression introducing the residents of Scottsdale to our fun and delicious food, and make them fall in love with the brand. It is going to be a hit!

How have you been faring during the pandemic?

It was a bit of a struggle waiting for my time to open with so much uncertainty. I was waiting to see what the president was going to say about when we could open. Now all my employees are having to wear masks and gloves.

What can people expect when they come to the restaurant with current attendance limitations?

Coronavirus has forced businesses across the country to shut down, but I am thrilled to be part of a network uniquely positioned to maintain its loyal customer base.

TMAD of Scottsdale will be providing our signature giant, hot and healthy teriyaki bowls to customers through catering, in-person ordering, curbside pickup and delivery until restrictions are lifted and we can offer in-restaurant dining at a reduced capacity.

The shop is prepared to open its dining room upon the amendment of city and state guidelines and will be adhering to all sanitary regulations put forth by the CDC.
