The ALS Association Arizona Chapter announces the return of its annual Walk to Defeat ALS on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.

With hopes of raising $450,000 to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, according to a press release, during the event, participants will experience an Arizona Coyotes prize wheel, live music, a chance to meet Santa Clause and more.

The ALS Association Arizona Chapter, which provides services and support to patients suffering from ALS — also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — is the only national nonprofit devoted solely to the fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease including patient and family services/programs, community outreach, and research, the release said.

ALS is 100% fatal with no known cause, cure, or effective treatment. Upon diagnosis, patients have from about two to five years to live, and expenses for those living with ALS average $200,000 annually, according to the release.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the program begins at 9 a.m. for the event to be held at Salt River Fields, 7555 N. Pima Road, Scottsdale.
