Scottsdale Safeway staff gets donation from Amalyn Consulting

Like many small business owners, Amy Shuckhart was directly impacted by COVID-19, but the third-generation insurance broker, who helps other businesses with health benefits, wanted to give back to local businesses.

Ms. Shuckhart presented Erin Lutz, the manager of Safeway at Shea and Scottsdale Road, with 100 gift cards for each employee, along with a card sharing gratitude from her and her staff on April 24, according to a press release.

Some Safeway employees received gift cards to Zak’s Chocolate, Eggstasy, Los Sombreros, Ling & Louie’s, or Daily Jam, the release said, adding that some received a free car wash from Francis and Son’s while others got gift cards from Salon Estique.

Ms. Lutz said her employees would be excited about the gift cards and noted how awesome it was for the team to be recognized by Amalyn.

Ms. Shuckhart wanted to give the gift cards she bought from her clients and others to those in the community who could use them the most, the release said, noting that grocery store workers are among unsung heroes.

“We’ve always had good relationships with our clients, but we have taken it a step further. Our stance is that we are in this together, so we’ve extended our support into areas a traditional benefits broker typically doesn’t address,” said Ms. Shuckhart in a prepared statement.

Ms. Shuckhart has become a “one-woman PR machine,” promoting her clients’ products through daily LinkedIn posts highlighting their work, and buying gift cards from her clients and other small businesses to help them through the economic crisis caused by the virus.

“My moment of realization came when I ordered groceries from a big warehouse store in March, and the delivery woman showed up with no gloves and no mask. I asked if she just wasn’t worried about the virus, and she said she had been promised protective gear weeks ago by her employer, but it had never arrived.

I immediately went inside and grabbed a mask and gloves and gave them to her with wishes of a safer day and I thanked her for her service to our community,” said Ms. Shuckhart in a prepared statement.

Ms. Shuckhart plans to continue her mission to help “underappreciated hard workers in the community,” and will surprise healthcare workers in assisted living facilities with a gift card delivery too from Amalyn Consulting, the release added.

“We truly are all in this together. Small acts of support and kindness have an incredible impact, and it has been so rewarding to see the domino effect they have on so many,” Ms. Shuckhart said.
