Scottsdale retains on-call pool construction services

The City of Scottsdale is so happy with its pool construction services from Shasta Industries that it will retain the company’s services.

City Council approved on consent the first of three 1-year extensions for job order contracts for pool construction services as needed. The approval came at the City Council’s Sept. 8 meeting.

The city initially approved the job order contract with Shasta Industries in September of 2018. The approval carries the option of three one-year extensions after the initial term of service. The maximum annual aggregate limit is $5 million and doesn’t include any roll-over funds.

Under the contract, the city has received equipment renovations at Cactus, El Dorado, Chaparral and McDowell Mountain Ranch aquatic centers.

With the extension, Shasta Industries will continue to repair, maintain and rehabilitate city pools and aquatics equipment. These services include chemical treatment system removal and/or replacement; installation of on-site chlorine generation systems; and architectural/HVAC improvements.

For any large individual construction projects, city staff will continue to pick contractors using the construction manager at risk or design-build selection procedures. The City Council’s approval would follow these projects if there were any planned.

Since this is a job order contract, projects will occur as needed. Furthermore, funds for potential job orders are available through various capital improvement projects. Available operational funding can be used for construction work under this contract.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of the city’s pools but the city’s website states the pools reopened in July. Specifically, Cactus. El Dorado and McDowell Mountain Ranch are open for lap swim and afternoon swim lessons.
