Scottsdale police investigating body pulled from downtown canal

Officials say it’s too early to identify victim

The Scottsdale Police Department is investigating the death of an unidentified white male found July 19 in the canal near Scottsdale and Camelback roads.

Officers responded at approximately 9:20 a.m. July 19, officials say.

Arriving officers immediately determined that the subject was deceased, at which point Scottsdale Fire Department crews responded and completed the technical recovery.

SPD spokesman Aaron Bolin says the department is working with the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the deceased male and determine the cause of death.

Bolin says the department has had many inquiries about whether the body is related to a recent missing person’s case.

“We are not able to answer those inquiries at this point of the investigation. Proper identification of the body needs to be made before we can identify the subject to the public,” Bolin said.
