Scottsdale plants numerous trees for Arbor Day 2022

APS forestry team replaces trees lost to monsoon storm

Posted

On Arbor Day 2022, April 29, trees were planted at three different parks across the city as Scottsdale recorded its 40th year being recognized as an official Tree City USA.

Arizona Public Service and the city of Scottsdale partnered to replace trees lost from July 2021 monsoon storms at two parks.

The APS forestry team planted 13 trees total — three at Chesnutt Park and 10 at Camelback Park, according to APS officials.

The trees planted by APS include:

  • Five Red Push Pistache
  • Three Ghost Gum Eucalyptus
  • Four Live Oak
  • One Evergreen Elm

Scottsdale Councilwoman Solange Whitehead and Assistant City Manager Bill Murphy paid a visit to the tree planting, officials noted.

Also on Arbor Day, Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega read a proclamation recognizing the holiday at the Bell Road Sports Complex, 9390 E. Bell Road, where there was also a tree planting ceremony.

Guest speakers at the city’s Arbor Day celebration included representatives from the Scottsdale Garden Club and Scottsdale Environmental Advisory Commission.

Scottsdale was been recognized as a Tree City USA community for its 40th year, more times than any other Arizona community, according to city officials.

Arbor Day is recognized on the last Friday of April.
