Scottsdale deemed ‘high transmission’ of COVID-19 spread again

Posted

For the fist time since February, Scottsdale is now in high community transmission, Maricopa County data shows.

According to the Maricopa County Schools Dashboard, during July 11-17, Scottsdale Unified School District had 106.62 cases per 100,000 people, with 9.98% positivity.

The dashboard shows the data from the week prior was 52.90 cases per 100,000 people, with 6.39% positivity.

The city of Scottsdale first announced the jump in COVID-19 cases last Friday, stating the dashboard at that time showed 101.1 cases per 100,000 residents for the week of July 4.

“For context, 101.1 cases per 100,000 means that there are about 263 new cases within the population of Scottsdale over that seven-day period,” the city’s emailed newsletter stated. “Nearly all other major Valley cities saw significant increases in their case rates.”

According to the county dashboard, vaccinations continue to rise slightly — just over 64% of Scottsdale residents have received at least the first dose, while 59.2% have been fully vaccinated. This is an increase from 58.3% vaccinated the week prior.

The Town of Paradise Valley, which includes three SUSD campuses, is in substantial transmission, the dashboard shows.

Paradise Valley has 54.66 cases per 100,000 people, and 5.15% positivity. The week prior, Paradise Valley had 61.49 cases per 100,000 and 2.47% positivity.
