School supply/water drive slated for June 20 in Scottsdale

Scottsdale Human Services Commission Vice Chair Denny Brown is hosting a One Stop Giving Day water/school supply drive in Scottsdale.

The drive will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday June 20 at Scottsdale United Methodist Church, 4140 N. Miller Road. This will be a no contact, drive thru event where volunteers will help.

“This year we are facing the greatest challenge in the history of Back to School. Scottsdale Unified School District has about 27% of their kids on free and reduced Lunch which equals about 5,000 kids. And now we have hundreds of families whose parents have been without jobs for awhile now,” Mr. Brown said in a prepared statement.

“Tremendous need and we have lost months of outreach. Our residents need all the help they can get. And the organizations that help those folks, need you.”

At the drive, volunteers will collect water for in-need children in the area as the summer months began to take hold. Vista del Camino, which helps run the annual giveaway, is looking for bottles of water as well as new reusable water bottles.

Volunteers will also be accepting school supplies from an official list as well as $25 Walmart gift cards. For those not wanting to venture from their homes, an Amazon list is available and will ship to Vista del Camino.

That list is available at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2BSVQDQY5P93V?ref_=wl_share
