Story time and live music at gas station/car wash with barbecue

Have you ever tasted delicious barbecue inside a gas station/car wash before?
The Thumb in Scottsdale is best known for its award-winning barbecue, bakery, car wash service, artisan gift market and feature in “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.” It even built a custom fish tank that was featured on Animal Planet.
Opened in 2012 inside a gas station/car wash, The Thumb has become an unlikely but popular destination for barbecue in the Valley. Its brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken and Kansas City barbecue sauce are big hits among customers, including Guy Fieri, a press release stated.
People come to The Thumb from across the Valley to fill up on gas, get their car washed, and while they wait, relax and enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner or baked goods from the bakery. There is also gourmet coffee and shopping in the high-end gift shop boutique. Many of the items found at The Thumb’s boutique can also be found at Nordstrom.
In fact, according to the release, many interior designers and real estate agents actually purchase candles, dishes and other home items here — inside a car wash — to decorate and stage their homes.
The Thumb’s has high-octane gasoline. It sells 95, which is a custom, on-premises blend of 91 and 100 octane. It is suitable to use this fuel in high-performance gasoline engines. It also sells Sonoco 100 Octane fuel.
There are new events coming up at The Thumb. Starting in September, it’s going to offer a farmer’s market on the property on the weekends.
It’s also starting a free, weekly “Family Story Time” on Sunday mornings from 8–8:30 a.m., and free, live music on Fridays & Saturdays 4–7 p.m. starting Sept. 2.
Every Sunday a couple of different children’s books will be read in a private, child-friendly area inside The Thumb. The Family Story Time is designed to be a fun, social time for babies, children and adults. Free coffee is served with any breakfast purchase. The Thumb’s BBQ Smokehouse is open for breakfast too.
