Meet Your Neighbor: Dr. Sundene welcomes natural remedies at Scottsdale Promenade

Posted

Name: Dr. Nicole Sundene

Age: 44

Business Name: Scottsdale Naturopathic PCP

Town/Neighborhood: Scottsdale Promenade Shopping Center at FLW and N. Scottsdale Rd #D-105

Hours of operation: 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuesday through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m on Saturdays.

Professional background highlights: 20 years of experience in primary care and women’s health. I worked for eight years as a family practice nurse from 1999-2007, and the past 12 years as a naturopathic medical doctor. The two experiences combined help me to practice an integrated approach to medicine. Patients can have the best of both worlds in my practice eastern and western medicine combined.

What I do: Natural and prescription family medicine care for women. I specialize in Fibromyalgia, Menopause, Bioidentical Hormones, PMS, Thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Hypothyroidism, women’s health, annual exams, pap smears, nutritional medicine, functional medicine and herbal medicine. The most important thing I do is to help the patient understand what the root cause of their disease is, and how we can work with their body to optimize their health using diet and lifestyle changes.

What I like most about doing business here: I love seeing the Frank Lloyd Wright “Spire” every day and working in the Scottsdale Promenade shopping center. There are so many wonderful stores in our shopping center. I am grateful to have healthy meals and fresh vegetable juice available next door to my clinic at “Bowl of Greens.”

Changes I’d like to see in this area: We need more collaboration between naturopathic doctors and MDs. Because of my background in family medicine, I know many MDs who trust my opinion but are skeptical of other naturopaths. We should all be able to work together as a team to help patients reduce the number of prescription medications they require. In America, we have a “Sick Care System” and in order to reduce the total cost of health care burden to our country, we must implement more preventative services to everyone and make naturopathic medicine the first line of defense for many conditions patients should not need medications to manage. Patients need more resources and support with implementing diets for diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol.

What I am promoting: Our Grand Opening Specials are $100 off a New Patient consultation; 8 pack of B-12 or Homeopathic Injections; or Weight Loss program.
What I’m excited about and why: I personally love B-12 Shots which is why we have a B-12 Shot Bar set up with Walk-In Hours from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. If you struggle with your energy and mood they can be a game-changer. We use all active vitamins, no synthetic vitamins and the finest homeopathic injectables available.

When and why I started my business/employment here: To be closer to my daughter’s school in Scottsdale.

Where was before and why I left: I practiced in Fountain Hills for the past 10 years.

My family: 8-year-old daughter, Violet, and 2 Golden Retrievers Maggie and Lucky.

My interests & hobbies: Herbal medicine making and crafts with my daughter. We love spending time with our dogs, taking them on hikes and going to the dog park.

People who inspire me (and how): My Grandma Marie was a registered nurse for 40 years. When I was growing up she brought us around with her while she volunteered taking care of seniors in her church that needed help. Some of them were actually younger than she was. She worked hard to always put a smile on their face and help them feel special and important. My Grandma Marie lived to be 105 by eating healthy foods she grew in her own garden. She was walking 2 miles every day, doing 20 push-ups and 50 sit-ups every day until 102.

My guiding philosophy: “Serve the Lord with Gladness” My Grandma Marie raised us to always be helpful to the people we meet and to show up every day and do God’s work the very best that we can.
My advice to today’s youth: Take the absolute best care of your body now so that your older self will thank you later.
