I am a retired COO of one of America’s large law firms, headquartered in Arizona. I have lived here for over 20 years. I care a lot about this community, our economy, and Arizona’s future.
This election, we have an interesting opportunity to elect someone who can make a really positive difference for our state. I’m talking about Eric Kurland, whom I have gotten to know well over the past few years.
Eric Kurland is the “real deal”: a person who committed his life to public service in our community, who personifies the qualities anyone would want in a leader.
He is smart. He listens. He builds consensus. He reaches out to experts for ideas and insight. He cares about all people, not just those who think like him, and works to lift them up. He is someone I would have promoted to high levels of responsibility.
Eric has two opponents. One, John Kavanagh, is a long-time leader in the legislature, very popular in this neck of the woods. The other is a newcomer who distinguished his campaign by suing the fellow Republican he had defeated in the Primary election, rather than patching things up and moving on.
Legislating is hard work. We need legislators who can work together or we will not meet the challenge of supporting a good life for Arizona families.
I would rather have a moderate Democrat like Kurland in the House, who works well with Republicans and will earn respect on both sides of the aisle, than a candidate who could be a divisive force in the Republican caucus.
We could all use more unity and humility these days, and that’s why this Arizonan will be voting for Kurland.
