Janik: Setting the record straight in light of political robocalls

Posted

Hello to friends, supporters and opponents,

I guess I have rattled some cages with my campaign. Someone (or somebodies) has sent out hundreds of robo texts to both Republican and Democrats alike. This is their message (and there are two depending on your party affiliation):

“Did you know Scottsdale City Council candidate Betty Janik donated to Guy Phillips? The same Guy Phillips who thought mocking the death of George Floyd and the mask mandate was OK. The same Guy Phillips that brought shame and embarrassment to our city. Say NO to Betty Janik. Reply STOP to stop.”

Or,

“Scottsdale Republicans: City Council candidate Betty Janik is NOT a registered Republican. Even worse...she’s on record supporting a vacancy tax and Planned Parenthood in Scottsdale. We need conservative leaders on the City Council, NOT Betty Janik. Say NO to Betty Janik. Reply STOP to stop.”

So here you go with the whole truth:

I am an Independent, never said I was in either party.

I donated $100 to Guy Phillips in January before his rally a few weeks ago.

This is the link to my response as published in the Scottsdale Independent.

Summary --- I hurt for the damage to Scottsdale and for the people who are suffering from COVID because others refused to wear a mask.

I am NOT a registered Republican and I never pretended to be. I support Planned Parenthood for the medical services they provide to both men and women, Republicans and Democrats.

On the vacancy tax, this really proves the point of my campaign: Do not build luxury apartment buildings if you cannot rent them out!

I said “It shouldn’t have been built in the first place” followed by perhaps there may be room for some exception.

I am not afraid to speak the truth. I am an Independent because there is a vast middle ground that most of us fit into. I hope to bridge the gap between both extremes. There is more that binds us together than separates us.

Please pass this along to your email list.

Editor’s Note: Betty Janik is a candidate for Scottsdale City Council in the Aug. 4 primary election.
