DST presents: ‘Jake’s Women,’ March 13 – April 26

Desert Stages Theatre announces the opening of the Broadway show, “Jake’s Women” on Friday, March 13 in the Actor’s Cafe at Scottsdale Fashion Square.
“Jake’s Women,” written in 1992 by Neil Simon, was turned into a film in 1996, according to a press release, detaling the play with the main characters from the original Broadway cast, Alan Alda and Joyce Van Patten, as Jake and Edith.
Jake, a novelist who is more successful with fiction than with life, faces a marital crisis and begins daydreaming about the women in his life, described the release of the comedic moving flashbacks playing in his mind interrupted by visitations from actual females.
Jake’s women include a first wife who was killed years earlier in an accident, his daughter who is recalled as a child but is now a young woman, his sister, an analyst, his current wife who is leaving Jake for another man, and a prospective third wife.
Neil Simon’s semi-autobiographical account is of love, marriage, life and learning to let go of the past, the release said, noting that audiences laugh and root for the guy to get the girl.
“Jake’s Women” opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre where it ran for 245 performances. Actor Alan Alda, was later nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his role as Jake, the release said.
“Jake’s Women” is a pastime that will deliver a rollercoaster of life challenges, disconnection from reality, mystery and suspense, noted the release about the Desert Stages production, directed by Janis Webb whose credits include “The Lion In Winter,” “Private Lives” and “The Pillowman.”
The role of Jake will be played by veteran valley actor Walt Pedano who was last seen on the Desert Stages stage as Willy Loman in last year’s award winning drama, “Death of a Salesman.”
Performances will run from 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays; and at 2 p.m., Sundays on March 13 – April 26, with an additional show at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16.
There will be no performances on April 12 or 17, the release added.
