Arrests made following Scottsdale short-term rental shooting

Posted

Two men have been arrested for a shooting that reportedly took place at a short-term rental property in Scottsdale, police officials say.

Around 4 a.m. Sept. 9, a shooting took place at a short-term rental property near 7900 E. Hubbell Street, stemming from a disagreement about money owed.

Aron D. Melvin, 24, and Sincere L. Hooks-Lilly, 23, were arrested for the shooting and injuring a victim, officials say.

The victim, who has not yet been named by Scottsdale PD, was shot three times and suffered gunshot wounds to her thigh, buttocks and chest. She was initially treated by patrol officers who applied tourniquets and chest seals to her wounds before handing her off to Scottsdale Fire Department medics for higher-level care and transport to the hospital.

According to police, the suspects, victim and witnesses met on Sept. 8, at a nightclub in Phoenix. The women staying at the Hubbell address invited the male suspects back to the rental property after leaving the nightclub.

While at the residence, some personal property was damaged, and an argument began about paying for the property. There was reportedly a money transfer through a phone payment app for the damaged property, however more arguing about the amount paid ensued and the suspects initially left the residence.

Police say the suspects returned just before 4 a.m., which is when the shooting happened.

Through interviews with the victims, detectives identified Melvin as the shooter and Hooks-Lilly as the driver who drove the pair back to the Hubbell address and away after the shooting.

The suspects were arrested without incident by SWAT detectives during a traffic stop during the afternoon of Sept. 9.

Both Melvin and Hooks-Lilly will be booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of attempted second degree murder and other felony charges related to their involvement in the incident.

The victim was treated at the hospital and has reportedly already been released.

A third individual, 23-year-old Leon Morgan, was a witness to the incident.

When detectives contacted him during a traffic stop in the west valley for questioning, he was arrested on charges unrelated to the shooting incident and has since been released.
