Queen Creek Town Council names Julia Wheatley vice mayor
Posted
Independent Newsmedia
At its Jan. 15 meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council selected Julia Wheatley to serve a one-year term as vice mayor.
Responsibilities of the vice mayor include conducting meetings of the Town Council when the mayor cannot be present and representing the views of the mayor and the town at official and ceremonial functions and in meetings with other agencies when the mayor is unable to attend, according to a release.
The mayor nominates the vice mayor from among the Town Council members, and the mayor and Town Council vote to confirm the appointment.
“Thank you for entrusting me with the responsibility of serving as vice mayor,” Vice Mayor Wheatley said in the release. “I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our outgoing vice mayor and the vote of confidence by my fellow council members. Most importantly, I would like to thank my family --- my husband and my kids--- for supporting me as I do something that I love. And my father, who never misses an important moment in my life and served as an inspiration to me as he served as the vice mayor of Gilbert. I am truly blessed to serve this community.”
Ms. Wheatley was elected to the Town Council in 2010. She serves on the town’s Budget Committee and Legal Policy – Public Safety, Military Affairs and Courts Committee.
She has a Bachelor of Science in legal studies with a minor in criminal justice and is pursuing a master of public administration to extend her interest in law, politics and local government
Ms. Wheatley and her husband, Benjamin, have four children. She and her family moved to Queen Creek in 2007.
