At midnight, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office officially handed off law enforement duties to the new Queen Creek Police Department.
At noon today, Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice will hold a press conference to talk about the patrol's first night.
Yesterday, the town of Queen Creek issued a statement that it was "extremely grateful to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) for the law enforcement services they have provided to the community over the past three decades. "
MCSO has been the town’s contracted law enforcement provider since incorporation in 1989.
“We are thankful for MCSO’s support and service,” stated Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney. “We have gotten to know and love our District 6 deputies over the years. They are fantastic individuals and have served with heart, dignity, and respect.”
MCSO Sheriff Paul Penzone was on hand at midnight to officially transfer duties to the QCPD.
