Queen Creek author John L. Shield writes 'One Eye on the World' about his time in newspaper industry

Queen Creek resident John L. Shields, who lives in Will Rogers Equestrian Ranch, has written a book, "One Eye on the World," that is available for sale on Amazon and Archway.

He worked nearly 50 years in the newspaper industry --- as an editor, publisher and supervisor of groups of newspapers --- and wrote a book about his interesting journey, Mr. Shields said in an e-mail.

"This book will take readers through the years of my World War II birth in 1942 through the present. Also, interesting stories and well-known people I met during my career," he said.

"'One Eye on the World' takes readers on a serious yet humorous journey of the glory years of the newspaper industry," according to the description on Amazon.

"John's stories give readers insight into a reporter-editor-photographer covering schools, tragedies, corruption and human interest. These stories bring readers into the newsroom of daily newspapers and how decisions are made," the description states.

The book's title comes from Mr. Shields losing one eye at 1.5 years old, it states.

"Having only one eye impacted John's life, but he turned it into a positive and was known for his unusual sense of humor," the description states.

The 196-page book was published March 31 by Archway Publishing. The  ISBN-10 is 1480887005; and the ISBN-13 is 978-1480887008.
