New principal named for Queen Creek Elementary School

Posted

Dr. Perry Berry, Superintendent of Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD), and the QCUSD Governing Board have named Dawn Michaelson as the new principal of Queen Creek Elementary School.

The hiring of Michaelson was approved at the June School Board meeting. She replaces Elyse Torbert who has been named the principal of the district’s yet-to-be-named third high school in southern Queen Creek.

“Mrs. Michaelson is highly recommended as a strong instructional leader with tremendous work ethic and passion,” Berry said. “We look forward to having her join our principal team.”

Michaelson earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University, a Master of Science with an emphasis in Science Curriculum from California State Hayward, and her Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. She is an Arizona native and taught third grade for 13 years, sixth grade for four years and seventh grade for one year before accepting a position as an elementary assistant principal with the Higley Unified School District. Michaelson has served as assistant principal for the past three years.

Michaelson and her husband, David, have been married for 24 years and have two daughters, Kylee, 20, and Ashley, 18. When not working, Michaelson enjoys reading, watching Cardinals football, and spending time with family and friends.

“Queen Creek Elementary is a great school in a great district and I look forward to serving so many exceptional educators and families in my role as principal,” Michaelson said.
