Established in: 2014

Town/neighborhood: Copper Basin, serving Florence, San Tan Valley, Coolidge, Queen Creek.

When and why I moved here: When we were looking to open Frontier Tattoo Co. we wanted a place close to our San Tan Valley home because we knew the area and the community. We incorporated in 2013 and started looking for space to rent. We finally settled on The Shops at Copper Basin since it’s accessible to a large number of people. Copper Basin ended up being the perfect choice because not only is it in the middle of the San Tan Valley/Florence area, we ended up moving to Florence.

What I like most about living here: We love living in Florence and doing business in San Tan Valley. Who would ever disagree with a six-mile commute? We love the sense of community here and we can’t imagine living or working anywhere else.

What I do: We have four experienced tattoo artists: Paul with 27 years, Craig with 22 years, Josh with 21 years and Andy with seven years. We also have two piercers: Kristie, our senior piercer with five years’ experience, and Brook, our junior piercer who apprenticed under Kristie, with a couple of months’ experience.

What I like most about what I do: We love the clients we deal with. The people in this area are so nice and generous. We like being able to offer our community great tattoos and piercings at a fair price in a clean, professional and fun atmosphere.

Changes I’d like to see in this area: More shopping. Having a Home Depot or Lowes closer to us would be great.

Favorite community cause and why: Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and Pinal County Animal Control are two of our top causes. We very much enjoyed donating food, toys, $200 in client-donated cash and a $500 check to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office’s Shop with a Sheriff earlier in December 2020. We also hold a year-round blanket/food/toy drive for the Pinal County Animal Control Shelter. We also hold an annual water drive for St. Vincent de Paul. Our clients are amazing about donating to our causes. Due to COVID-19 this year, we haven’t been able to do a lot of the fundraiser functions here at the shop we’re used to doing so we started thinking outside the box. Instead of throwing a fundraiser, we did an online essay contest with $25-$175 Walmart gift card prizes for elementary, middle and high school kids. We ended up with some great essays and some really tough decisions. We’ve also held fundraisers for Central Arizona Animal Rescue, Military Assistance Mission, Arizona Hemophiliac Association, St. Joe’s NICU, Children’s Hospital, 2nd Chance Dog Rescue and more. When we hold fundraisers, we offer a free flash tattoo or basic piercing with a minimum $20 donation to the cause we’re fundraising for. Unfortunately, because our fundraisers draw a huge crowd, we’ve had to put them off until further notice.

My family: Our families include adults and children, dogs, husbands, wives and girlfriends — normal families. We’re just decorated differently.

My interests and hobbies: Our staff enjoys lots of hobbies. Target shooting and hunting, gold panning, cooking and baking, traveling, coin collecting, companion animals, painting and more.

The trait(s) I admire in others: Flexibility, kindness, generosity, greatness of being.

People who inspired me (and how): Every day we’re inspired by others. No matter how small the gesture, anyone can inspire others.

My guiding philosophy: Treat others as you would like to be treated. Be fair but firm. Stand by your principles. Be ethical. Care for others. Say please and thank you. Always be of service to others.
