Meet Your Neighbor: Ernie Merrill of Arizona Lifestyle Home Remodeling

Posted

Your Name: Ernie Merrill

Business Name: Arizona Lifestyle Home Remodeling. We specialize in residential home remodeling. We also have a sister business called Minuteman Air, Plumbing & Electrical. By having all four licenses, we are qualified to do any project without hiring outside contractors.

Town/Neighborhood that we serve: The East Valley — Chandler, Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Queen Creek, Scottsdale and Tempe.

Hours of operation: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, Saturday by appointment.

Personal background highlights: After many years of experience, I was qualified to become a licensed contractor by the state of Arizona Registrar of Contractors. I have studied and passed the test for the residential general contracting a well as the master test for electrical, plumbing, and air-conditioning. We are one of only a few companies that carry all four main contracting licenses in the state.

Professional background highlights: 40-plus years of being in the residential construction business. I became a licensed contractor when I was 27 years old and have spent my complete adult life in the contracting industry. I have chosen to focus my main attention on residential homeowners and their remodeling needs.

What I like most about doing business here: The Arizona fall, winter and spring. The opportunity to meet a variety of people from all over the U.S. and Canada. I love watching homeowners as they see their remodeled home become their dream.

What am I promoting: Room additions, kitchen, bath/shower and complete home remodeling. From concept to completion. Design services.

What I’m excited about and why: I get excited when my customers become excited about their bathroom, kitchen, room addition, or a complete update and remodel of their home.

When and why I started my business/employment here: I have been a licensed contractor for more than 40 years. My father was a contractor and I followed in his footsteps. From there, I added plumbing, air conditioning, electric, and general residential remodeling to my portfolio. Today, my main focus is general residential contracting.

Where was before and why I left: I was born in Glendale, California, and grew up in Snohomish, Washington. I went to college in Utah before moving to Arizona 42 years ago. Arizona has become my home.

My family: I am married, 44 years to Barbara. I have four children and 11 grandchildren.

My interests & hobbies: Great football games, fishing and the great outdoors. I enjoy visiting the national parks and experiencing the beauty of nature.

People who inspire me (and how): My parents and family.

My guiding philosophy: Work with a purpose. Be fair and kind to all people.

My advice to today’s youth: Make a commitment to yourself by working hard at your chosen profession, trade or field of study. Do not cheat yourself by not putting in the effort to be great at something.
