Posted

Margaret passed away peacefully on January 7, 2021 at the age of 95. Her loving caretakers Debbie & Steve Sniegowski were at her side.
Maggie was born in Walbridge Ohio on December 14, 1925, the second of three daughters of Ernest Robert Gillespie and Zoa Edith (Rhodes) Gillespie. She grew up in Walbridge and graduated from Walbridge High School in 1943.
As a young girl she enjoyed roller skating and enjoyed competitions with her sister Betty. Maggie met her husband Tom at the skating rink in Walbridge and they were married in 1944.
Maggie always loved animals and while living with her husband Thomas Edward McCormick in Fort Wayne, Ind., she loved and raised Pekingese.
Maggie was a very hard worker, she cleaned houses, did ironings, worked in the gardens, raised her animals, and also worked at Seyfert’s Potato Chips in Fort Wayne, Ind.
In 1970, after her divorce, Maggie moved to Phoenix, Arizona. She loved the heat and the sunshine and remained there for the rest of her life.
She loved working outside in the sun and always had a dark tan and a tidy yard.
After moving to Phoenix she worked full-time and retired from Farmers Insurance Group.
She enjoyed her retirement and was never one to sit still and even worked part-time at Burger King for a while just to have people to talk too! She did a bit of traveling here and there but also enjoyed being at home and working around the house.
She loved dancing, going to the movies with her friends and was a huge fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
One of her favorite things was her morning coffee with her son Tom who stopped by daily. She looked very forward to his visits.
She visited her daughter Nancy in Indiana and always enjoyed her time there.
She had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them whether it was out to breakfast, at the local swimming pool, church on Sunday or more recently at the Senior Center.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Zoa Gillespie and her sisters, Marcella Cottrell and Betty Frank.
Survived by her children, Sally Thomason of Mesa, AZ; Nancy Williams of Fort Wayne, IN; Tom McCormick (Sherry) of Buckeye, AZ; and Cindy Hathaway (Dee) of Buckeye, AZ; 16 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
