Queen Creek resident Lauren Shirley is a member of the Central College softball team.

The senior is a pitcher and has one varsity letter. Her 2019 pitching stats are: 0-0, 3.62 ERA, 9.2 innings, 14 hits, 8 runs, 5 earned runs, 2 strikeouts, 5 BB. She is a graduate of Seton Catholic High School, according to a release.

Central College will open its season Feb. 29 at an indoor tournament in Rochester, Minnesota, before heading to Tucson March 6-8 for the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic and to Clermont, Florida, for the Spring Games March 16-21.

The Dutch are ranked No. 21 in the NCAA Division III in the preseason, the release states.

They return 10 letter winners from last year’s team that finished 29-12 and earned a record 30th NCAA Division III tournament appearance.

NFCA Hall of Fame coach George Wares, the winningest coach in Division III history with a 1,152-394-3 (.745) record, has guided the Dutch to four national championships.
