A $104,000 contract for engineering design for sidewalks and bike lanes on Ellsworth Road, from Rittenhouse to the Union Pacific Railroad, was recently approved by Queen Creek Town Council.
The council in a consent agenda Nov. 20 approved paying $104,445.89 to Wood Environment and Infrastructure Solutions Inc.
“This project will complete sidewalk and bike lane improvements to ‘fill in the gap’ on Old Ellsworth Road between existing improvements south of Rittenhouse Road to existing improvements approximately 350 feet north of the train tracks,” Troy White, the town’s public works director, said in a memo to the council.
Services include coordination with Union Pacific Railroad and the Arizona Corporation Commission, and processing of an application for approval to construct the improvements within railroad right-of-way, he said.
“Services also include the preparation of an application for a U.S. Department of Transportation Railroad Safety Grant to help cover the project’s construction cost. If a railroad safety grant is not obtained, other funding will need to be identified prior to the project moving forward,” he said.
