Comments sought on Pinal County land use study on development around military installations

Public comments are being sought on the Pinal County Joint Land Use Study, a joint planning effort led by Pinal County with support of the Arizona National Guard.

"Military installations are critical to local economies, generating thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in economic activity and tax revenue annually," the joint land use study states. "The growth of incompatible development around military installations, often referred to as encroachment, has been a leading factor in the loss of training operations at military sites across the country and has resulted in realignment of mission-critical components between installations."

The public draft review and comment period will run through Jan. 10, 2020, according to a release.

For detailed information, updates on current JLUS activities, and to submit comments, go to pinaljlus.com.

The project  includes a broad group of stakeholders and participating organizations that comprise the Policy Committee and Technical Working Group involved in the project development.

The JLUS is funded through a grant from the Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment. The Pinal County JLUS Project Area encompasses the central north-south corridor of Pinal County and includes Arizona National Guard installations of Florence Military Reservation, Rittenhouse Training Site, Silverbell Army Heliport, and Picacho Peak Stagefield; as well as the surrounding communities of the towns of Florence, Marana and Queen Creek; the City of Eloy; and other land managed by organization such as the Arizona State Land Department and Bureau of Land Management.
