Bring the beans, make it spicy, load up the beef and wash it all down with bourbon and beer. Anyway you mix it, come taste the best at the third annual KMLE Country Chili, Bourbon and Beer Festival Feb. 29 in Chandler.

The festival will take place at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park, 178 E. Commonwealth Ave. in Chandler. The gates open at noon and the festivities run until 9 p.m. A variety of ticket options are available. Go to chilibourbonfestival.com.

Presented by Stinkin’ Good Chili, the event encourages local cooks to get in the kitchen and bring the southwestern flavor to compete against the participating restaurants in the chili cook off, according to a release.

The Chili, Bourbon and Beer festival will also feature more than a dozen top-shelf bourbons to sample, mixed drinks and local crisp beers. A full day of live country music performances by Western Fusion band, Jim Bachman and the Day Drinkers, Chad Freeman & Redline, Cole Trains and Southbound will heat up the stage.

“The event is a great combination of favor and flair,” Landon Evans, creative director of HDE Agency, the event’s producer said in the release. “From mild to unbearably hot chili offerings and over a dozen of top shelf bourbons you’re likely not to try – we welcome all to indulge, experience and engage with the variety of bourbons, beers and bands.”

Festival guests will also revel in flair performances including flame throwing, life-size lawn games, eating competitions including cornbread, chili dog and Frito pie challenges and more, the release states.

A portion of the proceeds from Chili Bourbon and Beer Fest will benefit the Greater Cause Foundation, a nonprofit organization that gives back to communities’ greater causes including children’s welfare, equality, anti-bullying, hunger, sickness, disaster relief, homelessness and animal abuse, the release states.
