Arizona has added 790 cases and 18 deaths of COVID-19 overnight, according to the state Department of Health Services.
As of the morning of Saturday, May 30, the ADHS reports 19,255 cases and 903 deaths of the new coronavirus. Also, a total of 307,715 COVID-19 tests have been done in Arizona.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up in two to three weeks. But it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death for some people, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
Most of the current models continue to show that Arizona’s capacity is sufficient to meet the projected need for hospital beds and ventilators, according to a May 26 blog from Dr. Cara M. Christ, director of the Arizona Department of Health Services.
ADHS is monitoring a number of different models, she wrote in the blog.
“ADHS uses the models to identify potential resource needs. All of our efforts to date have allowed our healthcare system to increase resource capacity to meet Arizona’s healthcare needs. As our data evolves, so will our response,” she said.
“Moving forward, the best course of action is to continue using all of our real-time, Arizona-specific data that anyone can access on our website to assess the health of our healthcare system and evaluate the trend of our cases to continue making decisions that are best for Arizona,” Dr. Christ said.
