69KV transmission line to be moved from Meridian Road alignment

Posted

An agreement with Salt River Project has been approved for the $1.3 million design and construction plan preparation for replacement and relocation of a 69KV transmission line along the Meridian Road alignment from Queen Creek Road to Germann Road.

The town is constructing Meridian from Combs Road to State Route 24 to improve the traffic flow within and through the town, Public Works Director Troy White said in a memo to the council.

“As this roadway route primarily did not exist as a roadway historically, rights-of-way will have to be acquired and utilities previously placed along the route accommodated and relocated. This proposed contract agreement concerns a roughly 1-mile segment of that route from Queen Creek Road to Germann Road,” he said.

SRP’s transmission- and distribution-line poles are within an easement within the proposed roadway, he said.

“The proposed relocation will move the SRP lines west approximately 45 feet to the edge of the proposed roadway right-of-way,” Mr. White said.

The $1,317,841 agreement with SRP was approved Sept. 16 as part of a consent agenda with other items. On the dais were Mayor Gail Barney and Councilmember Jeff Brown. Meeting by WebEx were Vice Mayor Julia Wheatley and Councilmembers Emilena Turley and Jake Hoffman. Councilmembers Robin Benning and Dawn Oliphant were absent.
