6 reappointed to Queen Creek Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee

Posted

David Dobbs, Ashley Fuller, Brady Hamilton, Karl Kleinebreil, Marvin Smith and David Sobeck have been reappointed to the Queen Creek Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.

The Town Council on Sept. 2 voted unanimously to approve the reappointments in a consent agenda with other items. On the dais were Mayor Gail Barney and Councilmember Robin Benning. Meeting by WebEx were Vice Mayor Julia Wheatley and Councilmembers Dawn Oliphant, Emilena Turley, Jeff Brown and Jake Hoffman.

Completed boards and committees member application forms were reviewed for all six applicants, Marnie Schubert, communications, marketing, recreation director; and Adam Robinson, recreation manager, said in a memo to the council.

“David Dobbs, Ashley Fuller, Brady Hamilton, Karl Kleinebreil, Marvin Smith and Dave Sobeck have had good attendance records and have been active participants in PRAC, providing valuable input on parks, trails and recreation issues. David Dobbs has been an active member since 2010, David Sobeck has been an active member since 2013, Karl Kleinebreil and Marvin Smith have been active members since 2014, and Ashley Fuller and Brady Hamilton have been active members since 2018,” according to the memo.

The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is to assist and advise Queen Creek Parks and Recreation staff. The committee also acts in an advisory capacity to the Town Council in the development and continuing review of goals and objectives for Queen Creek’s parks, trails and open spaces as well as recreational programs and events, according to the town’s website.

Work program approved

Also approved in the consent agenda was the fiscal year 2020-21 Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee work program.

“The work program is developed to include Town Council established or adopted goals and priorities, including the town’s corporate strategic plan, the 2018 parks and recreation master plan, budget and department work priorities,” Ms. Schubert and Mr. Robinson said in a second memo to the council.

The priorities are:

  • Assist in the design of the Queen Creek Sports Complex (east park site) project.
  • Concession stand and food vendor use policy.
  • Policy and procedure manuals.
  • Special event policy and application.
  • Ongoing participation opportunities.

“The activities of PRAC may include study of critical issues, hearing public testimony, independent research, department updates and reviewing staff reports and recommendations — all of which is intended so that the committee is prepared to discuss, formulate and forward well-developed recommendations to the Town Council concerning recreation services, park, trails and open space policies, development proposals and citizen insight,” Ms. Schubert and Mr. Robinson said in the memo.
