On Dec. 3, Barro’s Pizza hosted the Eighth Annual Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight, which raised more than $260,000 for St. Mary’s Food Bank.
“This is our favorite time of year,” Bruce Barro, co-owner of Barro’s Pizza, said in a release.
“Each year we look forward to honoring our mother, Doran Barro, by giving back to our community. One in seven Arizonans struggle with hunger so it’s our responsibility as a community to help. We are very grateful to our customers for getting behind this annual event once again," he said.
A full 100% of all sales on Dec. 3 from all 43 Barro’s locations in both Phoenix and Tucson are donated to St. Mary’s Food Bank to help those in Arizona facing hard times during the holidays. This year’s contribution is the highest donation ever raised from this annual event. Every dollar raised equates to seven meals, this year providing more than 1,820,690 to those in need, the release states.
With this year’s contribution, Barro’s Pizza has now raised almost $1.5 million, which equals 10,264,485 meals for Arizona’s hungry. The Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight is St. Mary’s Food Bank’s largest cause-related marketing effort each year, according to the release.
