Smith: Calls out falsehoods in TV ads

Posted

I recently received a mass mailing paid for by the Arizona Republican Party. It stated, “Under Biden’s tax plan, 82% or Americans would face higher taxes.”

I went to factcheck.org to see if it was true. It is not.

The following is a quote from factcheck.org: “Biden’s proposal includes three main changes; imposing a payroll tax on earnings over $400,000; restoring a top income tax rate of 39.6% for income above $400,000; and increasing the top corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%.

The most recent estimate by Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center on Oct.15 calculates that the net results of all of Biden’s tax proposals in 2022 would be, on average, an increase in after-tax income (in effect, a tax cut) for the bottom 80% of households with the top one-tenth of 1% of earners bearing 70% of Biden’s proposed tax increases.

What has happened to our country when a major political party can mass mail out something so false? It is difficult to know what the truth is.

The attack adds on TV are beneath us all and mostly not true. It is up to us to check out what the truth is.
