Pinal County: Woman tries to run down deputies, car chase ends in Phoenix

Posted

A 19-year-old woman has been booked in Pinal County Jail in connection with an early Friday morning chase during which authorities said she attempted to run down deputies setting up spike strips along Interstate 10.

PCSO will recommend charges against Alma Rodriguez Dominguez for aggravated assault, unlawful flight, endangerment and child abuse, officials said.

Just before 2 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, a deputy attempted to stop a Dodge Charger driving erratically on the I-10 near mile marker 204, according to PCSO.

The car sped off and was pursued by the deputy. A second vehicle, a gray Hyundai, “traveling in tandem with the Charger, twice attempted to run the pursuing deputy’s vehicle off the road,” and a second deputy began pursuing the cars, according to PCSO.

The Charger pursuit was called off, while deputies continued to pursue the Hyundai.

As deputies were setting up the spike strips to stop the car, the driver of the Hyundai attempted to run them down, officials said.

Spike strips set up near the I-10 and the 202 interchange were successful, and the driver came to a stop at 7th Street and Osborn.

The driver was taken into custody. Inside the car, deputies said they found the suspect was smuggling two suspected illegal aliens.

The driver's children, ages 1 year and 5 months, were also in the car, uninjured.

The department of child safety took custody of the children, and the other two passengers were turned over to ICE.

“These human smuggling attempts are incredibly dangerous for all involved, including law enforcement, the general public those being trafficked illegally, and unfortunately in this case, innocent children,” said Sheriff Mark Lamb.
