Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, Spoke Art Gallery to host Pop Art Exhibition sequel

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and Spoke Art Gallery recently announced the return of the “Frank Lloyd Wright: Timeless” art exhibition, but in a new, virtual format.

The virtual show --- featuring live-streamed events and limited-edition, Wright-inspired works from over a dozen international, contemporary illustrators and artists --- will kick off at 10 a.m. PST/ 1 p.m. EST on Oct. 24 with a “Taliesin Talk” conversational discussion livestreamed to the Foundation’s Facebook page, hosted by vice president of communication and partnerships, Jeff Goodman, Spoke Art Gallery Curator Ken Harman Hashimoto and select artists from the showcase.

A live premiere on the gallery’s Instagram page will follow at noon PST/ 3 p.m. EST to unveil the exclusive lineup of artwork featured in the exhibition, according to a press release.

This year, the pieces are designed again in the style of a 1930s-era Works Progress Administration-style travel posters depicting artistic interpretations of Wright-designed buildings.

Among participating artists are returning guests Max Dalton from Argentina, Alison King from Phoenix, Steve Thomas from Minnesota, François Schuiten from Belguim and George Townley from the United Kingdom; as well as newcomers Jon Arvizu from Phoenix, Dave Perillo from Philadelphia, Aaron Stouffer from Phoenix, Bruce Yan from Seattle, and Phantom City Creative from Toronto.

Limited high-quality, hand-numbered posters featured in the series will be available to purchase at Spoke-Art.com as serigraphs or archival pigment prints, also known as screen prints or giclées, range in price from $40 to $75 per print, noted the release.

“Our collaboration with Spoke Art is one of my favorite projects, because it exemplifies the creative ways the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is working to advance its mission,” said vice president of communication and partnerships, Mr. Goodman, in a prepared statement.

“By asking this talented cadre of diverse artists to reinterpret Wright’s designs in their own style, we are able to inspire new audiences to discover and embrace an architecture for better living. We know that more people will learn about the Wright legacy through this show, and it will challenge them to make, in Wright’s words, ‘world a better one for living in.’”

Mr. Goodman stated that the popularity of the show means that collectors should act fast to be certain to secure their favorites.

“Last year, these limited edition works of art went fast, both to followers of Wright’s work and fans of these incredible artists,” he said. “And, when they’re gone, they’re gone. So, be sure to be first in line when they go on sale.”

The inaugural “Frank Lloyd Wright: Timeless” exhibition debuted in 2019 with showings held at Spoke Art’s sister gallery in New York, Hashimoto Contemporary, and Wright’s lauded Taliesin and Taliesin West in Spring Green, Wisconsin and Scottsdale, respectively, according to the release.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation and the gallery chose to pivot the 2020 show to be online-only to maintain their shared initiative of inspiring and connecting with the global art and architecture community, the release said.

Spoke Art is internationally-recognized for its rotating pop-up shows that feature a curated selection of contemporary, pop-culture-inspired paintings, sculptures and illustrations from a collection of celebrated artists.

Previously held at the New York and San Francisco locations, as well as in major cities like Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago, the gallery’s themed exhibits are noted to have garnered admiration from a dedicated following of art aficionados and pop-culture enthusiasts.
