Davis: I am opposed to Biden's nomination of Omarova to head OCC

Posted

Arizona is one of the fastest growing and most vibrant economies in the nation with our capital city, Phoenix, now ranked as the United States’ fifth most populous city.

Arizona is also home to a number of both well-established and startup companies who enjoy a competitive business climate and tax structure, a skilled, knowledge-based workforce, world-class innovation, and a plethora of cultural and scenic resources all at their disposal.

Millions of Arizonans depend on local banks and credit unions to support their families and their businesses.

These independent bank branches offer the financial services and community support that keep our families and small businesses together, and each of these financial institutions are regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in order to promote a diverse banking system for the benefit of communities, businesses and the U.S. economy.

However, Saule Omarova, a Cornell Law Professor and President Biden’s nominee to head the OCC, is a threat to these values, and to Arizona’s economic progress.

One government bureaucrat cannot be made to undo our growth and our progress — so I must call on Arizona Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly to vote “no” on Saule Omarova’s nomination as it comes before the Senate: “no” to government overreach in our banks and “no” to Saule Omarova.

Sincerely.
