As live music continues to return with a focus on safety precautions, Rockin The Blues is lining up some West Valley gigs.
The blues combo features John Leo (vocals, harmonica), from Surprise, Sun City residents Guy Dobbins (drums) and Larry Kubiayk (bass), and Anthem resident Scott Severtson (guitar).
Their next round of gigs starts with a 5:30 p.m. show Thursday, Sept. 24 at I & J Fountain Restaurant, 12221 W. Bell Road, Surprise. Limited seating is available. Call 623-583-1222 for reservations.
After that is a 5 p.m. show Friday, Sept. 25 open to the public at American Legion Post 62, 9847 W. Desert Cove Ave., Peoria. Call 623-972-2772.
The group will then return to Surprise for a 6 p.m. gig Saturday, Sept. 26 at The Eagles Aeire, 12425 W. Bell Road, Suite 100. Non-members are welcome for $3. Call 623-584-1660.
“The band was assured by the management that social distancing protocols will be followed,” the combo stated in a news release. “In general, that means appropriately spaced tables, masks required in common areas but not while dining, and no group dancing.”
The band took flight when lifelong New Yorker Mr. Leo and his wife Joann relocated to Arizona in 2013, and the members shortly after each found one another and began blending blues with rock and roll for their original sound.
Steve Stockmar has been with the Independent Newsmedia team since 2017. An NAU alum and Peoria resident, Steve’s community journalism pursuits focus mostly on arts & culture, education, and profiles of neighbors making a difference. In his spare time Steve plays in a vintage baseball league using uniforms and rules from the 1860s, and also acts (badly) in community theater. In addition, he has an unhealthy obsession with baseball and the Chicago Cubs.
