Happy Municipal Clerks Week!
May 1-7, 2022, is the 53rd Annual Professional Municipal Clerks Week.
Initiated in 1969 by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, the week is a time of celebration and reflection on the important role of the Clerk’s Office in local government.
City Clerks are called upon daily to provide a service or important information by their city or town leadership and the public.
City clerks are responsible for managing elections, preparing council and committee agendas and meeting notices, documenting and facilitating city council meetings, maintaining public records, and ensuring there is transparent and public access to local government through compliance with open meeting, public records, and elections laws.
Their work demands versatility, alertness, accuracy, and patience.
