Skon: Critical race theory only teaches kids to hate each other

Posted

I am writing in reference to the article about the recall efforts of Peoria Unified School District board members.

I am an Arizona native, wife, mother, and grandmother living in Peoria. It is disturbing to read about these “below the radar” attempts of socialist individuals that seem to be coming out of the woodwork in all our school districts nationwide. Now this has raised its ugly head in Peoria, whether they think they are disguising critical race theory by using other words, that is still their intent.

I love history, and I realize that horrible things were done in our past as a country. But, we can learn from these experiences and correct them, but not with indoctrinated children. I came of age in the 60s and know of the trials our country went through. Martin Luther King was a catalyst of a non-violent movement that changed the world. I love my country, and want my grandchildren to love it also. They go to a Catholic grammar school that has been open and functioning all through the pandemic! They plan out their schedule to honor veterans, (especially grandparents) on Veteran’s Day with time to teach the kids why we honor these individuals. Critical race theory only teaches kids to hate each other, and their country. I have another grandchild who goes to public school, and pray critical race theory doesn’t come to her Phoenix school.

As a tax payer in Peoria, I hope this can be resolved by parents who will speak up and not give up. Otherwise, our next generation will never know the great country we grew up in.
