Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Peoria

Posted

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened early Sunday morning in Peoria, according to a news release.

Peoria Police Officers responded to a domestic violence incident of a suspect attempting to strangle a victim in the area of 11600 N. 79th Drive, at around 3:45 a.m., Oct. 10.

When officers arrived, the suspect approached them in a parking lot.

The suspect was armed with a gun he had pointed at his head.

Officers negotiated with the suspect for several minutes. During the conversation, the male moved the gun from being pointed at his head and pointed it toward the officers but did not shoot, police said.

Then each officer fired at least one round, striking the suspect.

Officers and Peoria Fire-Medical Department personnel performed life saving measures; however, the suspect died on scene.

The suspect has been identified as Peoria resident Adrian Begay, 25.

The officers were not injured during this incident.

Officers involved in this incident were wearing body worn cameras, and they were activated.

This investigation has been turned over to detectives from the Buckeye Police Department as part of the West Valley Investigative Response Team.
