Peoria closes city hall, facilities to public until further notice

All Peoria city buildings will be closed to the public until further notice, effective March 22.
City officials said the decision was made to take further action to protect the health and safety of Peoria residents and mitigate the effects and spread of COVID-19.
“We will do everything necessary to assure a continuation of essential services for Peoria residents, as we strive to protect and preserve public health and prevent the spread of Covid-19,” Mayor Cathy Carlat said.
The closure includes all city buildings, facilities and public counters
City Council and Planning and Zoning Meetings will be conducted online. Members of the public will be able to stream those meetings on the city of Peoria’s YouTube and Facebook pages. The city will continue to conduct business and core services will not be affected, including fire-medical, police, trash, water and other essential city services.
“We will be suspending all city of Peoria water customer shutoffs through May 10, 2020 in an effort to support our residents during this exceptionally difficult time,” Ms. Cartlat said.
Peoria has already canceled city-sponsored events, programs, sports, classes and closed some city facilities. With the closing of all city facilities to the public, limited city staff will be onsite and other city staff will be telecommuting. Select city services may be available by appointment at the following locations: City Hall (including service counters for the City Clerk and cashier), Fire-Medical Administration, Development and Community Services (including planning and development and engineering counters). At the Public Safety Building, police services can be accessed via a phone located at the main doors.
