Peoria business leader earns national top grocer award

Peoria resident Ann Kunka, store manager at Fry’s Food Stores in Phoenix, has been recognized as one of 2022’s Top Women in Grocery by "Progressive Grocer" magazine, a national food retailer publication.

Kunka is one of two Fry’s leaders locally to receive the national award recognizing women in grocery who display exceptional achievements both in and out of the office. She will be honored at the "Progressive Grocer" awards gala this November in Orlando, Florida.

Kunka currently operates one of the most labor effective stores within the company where she oversees more than 200 employees. Her store continues to serve as the district store for training and impacting future leaders while also being sought after to set up grocery plans for the entire division.

“I’m excited and honored that I have been named one of 'Progressive Grocer’s' Top Women in Grocery in the store manager category,” Kunka said. “I am thankful to have had the privilege to lead many high performing teams to strive to reach their highest potential. It has been extremely rewarding watching these teams succeed and conquer new and exciting goals. I’m grateful for my previous mentors who always kept me grounded and kept encouraging me to move to the next level.”

Kunka’s passion for people has also led her to be a strong supporter of local first responders and their families, and she regularly gives back to the community through her ambitious volunteer efforts.

“Ann is a valued and dedicated Fry’s associate and deserving of this national recognition,” said Monica Garnes, president of Fry’s Food Stores. “She is a true testament to the Fry’s culture, a dedicated leader who shows up for her team daily and inspires them to be innovative thinkers and leaders. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments.”
