Peoria awards ViaSun street improvement contract

Posted

ViaSun Corporation has been awarded a $1.5 million contract from Peoria for pavement maintenance and repair services.

As part of its pavement management program, city workers completed an evaluation of Peoria Avenue, from Loop 101 to 99th Avenue, as well as an evaluation of the roadways within the Westfield Estates, Westfield Gardens 1 & 2 and Sunset View communities.

Age, expansive soils and extreme transverse cracking have degraded the road beyond regular maintenance, according to documents.

The streets division is recommending these areas be rehabilitated by milling damaged surfaces and edges and replacing with new asphalt concrete. As part of the projects, there will be significant work to repair and replace damaged concrete assets and improvement of ramps to meet ADA compliance as well.

This mill and overlay will eliminate multiple distresses and provide a smoother riding surface, reduce ongoing maintenance costs and increase the pavement lifecycle.
