Manusina named Week 6 winner with huge vote turnout

Somebody out there likes the big hitters. Last week a pair of linebackers broke out from the pack on the West Valley Preps player of the week vote to create some of the year's biggest vote totals.

Centennial junior linebacker Braxton Manusina pulled away from Valley Vista senior linebacker Brody Lindemann to win the Week 6 vote.

Manusina finished with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery in the Coyotes' defensive-minded 17-3 victory over Williams Field. He won with a whopping 3,151 of the 4,778 votes cast.

Lindemann was second with a total of 1,281 votes, good enough to win most weeks. He had eight tackles, an interception and a sack in the Monsoon's 45-6 pasting of Avondale Westview.

In third place with 166 votes was Glendale Prep senior receiver/linebacker Caleb Ferguson. In the Griffins' 28-0 home win against Kingman Academy, Ferguson had six catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns, plus nine tackles and a fumble recovery.

For the sixth straight year, player of the week honorees, including Manusina, will win more than bragging rights.

Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.
