The smallest high  school West Valley Preps covers continues to vote in the biggest numbers.

Glendale Prep has won three of the five football player of the week polls. In the Week 5 poll, a total of 3,218 votes were cast.

A Griffins player won the three-quarterback race for the honors. Glendale Prep junior quarterback Sam Terpstra won with 1,015 votes.

That was enough to just outpace Ironwood senior quarterback Will Haskell  (925 votes) and Estrella Foothills senior quarterback Ty Perry (796 votes)

Terpstra finished a 35-16 victory over Tonopah Valley on Oct. 30 15-24 passing for 136 yards and  a touchdown and also had seven carries, 42 yards and a touchdown.

Haskell led Ironwood to a 20-11 upset of previously undefeated Sunrise Mountain Oct. 30 with a 21-31 passing performance for 303 yards and three touchdowns.

Perry started the Wolves' three-game winning streak and playoff push with a 14-22 passing night for 195 yards and two touchdowns, plus 10 carries for 143 yards and four more scores in a 47-27 Estrella Foothills home win against Buckeye.

For the fifth straight year, player of the week honorees, including Terpstra will win more than bragging rights.

Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the Week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.

The polls have been delayed, but we'll have two up this week. The Week 6 player vote is up here . Look for the Week 7  vote soon.
