Construction of odor system, fiber optics begin in Vistancia

Posted

New infrastructure is being installed in north Peoria.

Vistancia has begun construction on parcels north of the Central Arizona Project canal, and now the area must be installed with utility services.

This includes the construction of a new sewer pump station adjacent to Vistancia Boulevard just north of the CAP canal.

Construction of a lift station has begun and is scheduled to be completed this winter.

The project went out to bid and Vistancia awarded the $154,907 project to Kear Civil Corporation based on plans and specifications that were finalized in early 2019.

The funds will contribute toward an odor control system and fiber optic communications equipment at the Vistancia I-1 Lift Station.

After approval of the plans and specifications, the water services department changed its standards regarding telemetry communications to remote sites such as the lift station. The new standard, arrived at due to problems with radio communications, calls for linking the site to Peoria’s fiber optics network. This upgrade will result in enhanced communications reliability and the elimination of an unsightly antenna that was intended to be located outside the facility wall, according to city documents. Work includes extending conduit and fiber optics cabling out of the site and south along Vistancia Boulevard to a point south of the CAP canal.

Due to the location of the facility and a desire to improve operations and efficiency at the new lift station, water services operations staff is also requesting to upgrade the odor control unit. The upgraded unit is expected to provide better air quality results than the unit that was originally bid and will likely result in fewer resident complaints. The upgraded unit is also expected to be more robust and have a longer lifespan, documents say.
