Carlat: Peoria working around the clock to meet residents’ needs

Posted

As we navigate our way through this difficult time, the city of Peoria continues to work around the clock to find new and unique ways to meet the needs of our residents as they relate to the changes caused by COVID-19.

Although our current city council meetings are not open to the public, council and I continue to meet with staff to discuss important topics related to the coronavirus.

To view our city council meetings, visit peoriaaz.gov/channel11.

During these exceptional times, there remains a stable and steady normality that you can count on in the city of Peoria.

Our city has shown a remarkable spirit of resilience, from water meter technicians to police dispatchers, from solid waste drivers to budget managers, Peoria continues to work hard to assure you never have to do without the essential services you need the most.

While there is no doubt that we are in a difficult point-in-time, I am very proud of what is happening in our great city.

City establishes help hotline

In an effort to assist Peoria residents during the coronavirus pandemic, Peoria has established an information and referral helpline. The purpose of the helpline is to answer questions and share resources with individuals based on their needs.

The lines will be open for residents to call Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. That phone number is 623-773-7770 or residents can send questions to contactus@peoriaaz.gov. All messages left after hours will be responded to the next business day. Visit peoriaaz.gov/covid19 for additional after-hours information.

Peoria SUPPORT resources still available

During this time, community members may be facing challenges that will lead to a need for resources and assistance. Peoria SUPPORT is here for our community members. Though the Community Assistance Resource Center is currently closed, staff is working and ready to help residents make connections to services. In addition, Peoria’s Resource Guide provides a wealth of resources for families, employment, senior citizens’ basic needs and assistance, housing, health and welfare, and much more.

If you or a client needs assistance, please call the Peoria SUPPORT line at 623-773-7070. Messages on this line will be checked frequently Monday through Thursday, from 8 am to 5 pm. Please do not hesitate to call the city during this challenging time.

Editor’s note: Ms. Carlat is the mayor of Peoria.
