Blues guitarist Carvin Jones to stream concert to raise money
Virtuoso on a mission to help elderly during COVID-19 shutdown
Posted
I have taken it upon myself to buy and deliver the groceries to (the elderly) personally!! I will do the live feed concerts, etc. as many have been requesting, but first we’ve gotta band together and help the elderly who are getting ripped off and can’t take care of themselves!!”
Carvin Jones wants to play music for the people, and he’s on a mission while he’s at it.
The Phoenix-based blues guitar virtuoso, who is a regular on West Valley stages during more socially-active days for residents, will stream a live show starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 4, “playing non-stop blues and rock-n-roll,” as the Facebook Live promo states.
The legend, voted one of the 50 greatest blues guitarists of all-time by Guitarist Magazine, wants to help bring out the best in people during the challenging days of COVID-19, and he’s seen the other side.
“It has come to my attention that we have scumbags out there that take elderly people’s money for grocery runs AND DON’T COME BACK with the GROCERIES!!!,” he posted to his Facebook page March 22, pictured in a store surrounded by empty shelves. “So I have taken it upon myself to buy and deliver the groceries to them personally!! I will do the live feed concerts, etc. as many have been requesting, but first we’ve gotta band together and help the elderly who are getting ripped off and can’t take care of themselves!! Yes CARVIN AGAINST CORONAVIRUS has officially begun!!”
The Carvin Jones Band has played places like Hurricane Grill and Wings, 11340 W. Bell Road, in Surprise; Tributes AZ, 18561 N. Glendale, in Glendale; and Scorpion Bay at the Lake Pleasant marina at 10970 W. Peninsula Road, in Peoria. The busy combo plays 330 live performances a year, according to their website.
“We’ll be taking requests and just like last time tips/donations will be accepted online to help in Carvin’s efforts in delivering groceries and supplies to the elderly and vulnerable during this quarantine,” the Facebook promo states. “We are all in this together and will come out of this! In the meantime, let’s party virtually and help those around us who are in need!”
Mr. Jones plays in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and B.B. King, and famously had Eric Clapton utter, “Carvin Jones is a young cat out of Phoenix who I think is the next up-and-coming blues player.”

In addition, he has an unhealthy obsession with baseball and the Chicago Cubs.
