Banner, Select Medical to open new Peoria hospital

Rehabilitation facility fills local need, officials say

Posted

A first of three planned rehabilitation hospitals featuring a partnership with the state’s largest health care system is opening in Peoria.

The 56-bed Banner Rehabilitation Hospital West, at 12740 N. Plaza Del Rio Blvd., is the first in a series to be opened in a partnership between Phoenix-based Banner Health and Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania-based Select Medical.

Officials with Select Medical declined to disclose how much was invested in the new facility.

The hospital is designed for patients recovering from a variety of serious health conditions from stroke, spinal cord and brain injuries to amputations, neurological disorders and COVID-19, according to Select Medical officials.

The in-patient facility is designed for patients with longer stays, with an average facility stay in other Select Medical facilities about 14 days.

Company officials said Peoria was one of the three sites chosen for the location because there is a growing need in the West Valley for inpatient rehabilitation services.

Select Medical has several outpatient rehabilitation facilities in the West Valley, with two in-patient facilities in Banner hospitals in Sun City and Sun City West, according to its website.

Banner Health is the state’s largest health care system with West Valley hospitals in Phoenix, Glendale, Sun City and Sun City West.
