Worldwide Auctioneers return to Scottsdale with pre-war automobiles, live boutique sale

Worldwide Auctioneers returns for its annual boutique sale, The Scottsdale Auction, on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at the start of Arizona Car Week.
Among pre-war automobiles slated for this year’s sale is an example of one of the world’s most significant motorcars, a Pebble Beach award-winning 1929 Duesenberg Model J Berline, one of the first Duesenberg Model Js delivered when new; a 1935 Delahaye 135M Competition Drophead Coupe, one of only four Delahayes built by Figoni in 1935 and the last known survivor.
Also crossing the block in Scottsdale is a restored 1932 Chrysler CH Imperial Cabriolet, the first car crafted by famed European coachbuilders Bohman & Schwartz, numbers-matching and presented in concours-level condition.
The Scottsdale Auction will again be staged at Singh Meadows in Tempe, as a live event, with online and phone bidding options available, according to a press release.
“We’re looking forward to starting the new year by welcoming our customers back to Arizona in person, to enjoy an expertly curated selection of world-class motor cars in a relaxed, spacious and genial setting,” said Principal and Auctioneer Rod Egan in the release.
Other pre-war highlights in the sale include a 1939 Packard Darrin, formerly owned by film star Preston Foster, one of the 14 original Hollywood Darrins with documentation that includes a copy of a Howard ‘Dutch’ Darrin signed letter, and an award-winning, factory supercharged 1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Phaeton with ACD Certification.
Notable consignments also include a restored factory black 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T with factory N96 shaker hood, documented with original broadcast sheet, and a 1957 Dual Ghia Convertible, number 24 of only 100 produced and 71 in existence, with Italian coachwork; an authentic Duesenberg Model J Engine J-432, fully restored by Brian Joseph’s Classic & Exotic Service, presented complete and built-to-run on custom rolling stand, with an accompanying display grille and radiator that also comes mounted on custom stand.
The Scottsdale Auction will also feature one of the most detailed and correct early Ford V-8 collections to come to market, with 35 examples from The Ron Thorne Collection “slated to go under the hammer, completely without reserve,” added the release.
