UMOM receives beautification grant from Bimbo Bakeries USA

UMOM New Day Centers -- shelter, services and housing for families, single women and youth experiencing homelessness -- is the recipient of a property beautification grant.

Bimbo Bakeries USA awarded the grant as a part of its Good Neighbor Program. On Oct. 18, there were 12 Bimbo volunteers from the Phoenix warehouse who spent the day at the UMOM family shelter planting various shrubs throughout the campus.

Six heavy-duty picnic tables have were purchased for shelter clients to use in the community space on campus, according to a press release.

“As Good Neighbors, Bimbo Bakeries is dedicated to engage in every community where we serve our customers. Our purpose is to build a sustainable, highly productive and deeply humane company and getting out in the community and doing volunteer services is part of living by that purpose,” said Alheli Aranda Britez, Bimbo human resources manager southwest, in a prepared statement.

The release noted the opportunity for associates to engage in community service and create activities, while also bonding with family.

The organization started working with UMOM in 2017, the release said of supporting the mission of fighting Arizona homelessness.

“We are deeply grateful for the generous donations and volunteer help from businesses like Bimbo. Their ongoing support makes it possible for UMOM to continue its mission of restoring hope and rebuilding lives for families, single women and youth experiencing homelessness in our community,” said Cassidy Penney, UMOM’s director of marketing and outreach, in a prepared statement.
