Phoenix Heart Ball Committee hosts annual addressing luncheon

Excitement is building for the 60th Annual Phoenix Heart Ball, which has a theme this year of “Know Your Numbers.”

Heart Ball Chairman Kristine Thompson and her Executive Team recently brought the Heart Ball Committee, made up of 100 volunteers, to Mountain Shadows Resort in Paradise Valley for the annual Addressing Luncheon.

The Committee spent the morning assembling the Heart Ball invitations, which were mailed directly following the event.

An elegant lunch was served in the ballroom, followed by Badgley Mischka Resort Evening Collection presented by Neiman Marcus with a special appearance from the designers themselves.

Bill Nassikas is the president and chief operating officer of Westroc Hospitality, the parent company of Mountain Shadows, Valley Ho and Sanctuary. He’s generously underwritten the Heart Ball Addressing Luncheon two years in a row, according to a press release.

“We have a vested interest in giving back to the community as a locally owned and operated resort,” Mr. Nassikas said. “I have family members who have been inspired by the Heart Association. And have learned to live a heart-healthy lifestyle as a means of coping with heart disease.”

At the podium, Ms. Thompson thanked Mountain Shadows Resort, and all of the sponsors, committee members, and past Heart Ball Chairmen for their steadfast support of the Phoenix Heart Ball and the American Heart Association.

“With the overwhelming support of people like Bill Nassikas and so many who deeply care about this cause, we have been able to raise tens of millions of dollars over the course of Heart Ball’s 60 years. I’m so proud to be the Chairman to celebrate this milestone,” Ms. Thompson said.

The chairman also announced the news that The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will be sponsoring the “After the Ball Party.” Guests of the Phoenix Heart Ball who wish to continue the celebration will enjoy signature cocktails, finger food, and a live DJ while they dance the night away all thanks to the Las Vegas resort and casino.

The 60th Heart Ball Executive Committee consists of Chairman Kristine Thompson, Vice Chairmen Charlene Berge-Blum and Amanda Garmany, Sweetheart Sandy Magruder, Honorary Chairmen Priscilla and Michael Nicholas, and Chairman-Elect Jennifer Moser.

The Phoenix Heart Ball lends a voice to heart disease by raising funds and awareness for vital community programs, professional education and research that benefits the American Heart Association.

It started with Peggy Goldwater, wife of Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, at the Jerry Lewis Koko Theater Restaurant in 1959. Her pledge to fundraise, coordinate and host the most lavish soiree at that time held true.

Today, 60 years later, the Phoenix Heart Ball has grown to be one of the most anticipated galas benefiting the American Heart Association.

The 60th annual Phoenix Heart Ball will be held on Nov. 23, at The Phoenician Resort, 6000 E. Camelback Road.
